The Alpine ibex (Capra ibex), also known as the steinbock, is a species of goat that lives in the Alps, found as high as 3,300 meters (10,800 feet). It is sexually dimorphic; the males carry larger horns than the females. By the 19th century, the Alpine ibex nearly went extinct, but populations are growing back by reintroduction and is now listed as least concern by the IUCN. All individuals living today descend from the stock in Gran Paradiso National Park, Italy.
It is related to the domestic goat.
