Thorne has now taken over the wheel of the jeep, shouting to Richard Levine to find weapons as the Velociraptor pack chases them. Thorne quickly knows there are no weapons in the the unarmoured jeep and judge they are half a mile from the clearing and the single trailer. A raptor in front jumps on the the jeep, landing onto the hood then smashing the windshield. temporarily disorienting Thorne's vision. As Thorne brakes, the raptor slides off while the full of anxiety Levine can only cry. Three more raptors are alongside and another jumps onto the running board, clamping its jaws around the side mirror. It attacks Levine who drops a hunting knife and Thorne tries to pick that up, seeing the remaining raptors still chasing.

With the road wider, Thorne increases speed while stabbing the knife wildly, missing the raptor. He wildly jerks the jeep and that random motion throws the raptor off along with most of the canvas roof. The raptor hits its comrades and Levine thinks they are free. However, yet another raptor jumps onto the jeep and Levine is extremely fearful, thinking he is facing impending death as the raptor hisses at him. Suddenly foam forms from its mouth, it spasms the rolls off. It is implied that Kelly Curtis shot the raptor with a Lindstradt rifle. Harding throws the key and the still frightened Levine shakily takes it. Ever more just interested in dinosaurs, he counts the number of chasing raptors as Thorne yells at him to grab the rifle from Kelly. He finally does so, however, more challenges arise as they run out of petrol.

Harding and Kelly are behind them, with the former shaking her head. Thorne continue to take lead, ordering Levine to free Arby Benton. The jeep continues to roll on yet the trailer is blocked by a rise so he turns towards the abandoned laboratory and see fuel pumps, hoping to find fuel in that area. Levine cries, noting the raptors having gone yet Thorne replies Harding and Kelly are not in sight.
