Borealopelta is a genus of nodosaurid ankylosaur that lived in Alberta, Canada during the Early Cretaceous period. Its remains were discovered on March 21, 2011, at an oil sands mine that is north of Fort McMurray. The area was a sea at the time. It should be noted that keratin sheaths, overlying skin, and stomach contents were well preserved in the specimen, which is rare among dinosaur fossils.
Also, known as the Suncor nodosaur, Borealopelta would be properly named in 2017. Even though it wasn't a feathered dinosaur, melanosomes have been found. Thus, the dinosaur has a reddish pinkish skin tone.
