The burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia), also called the shoco, is a species of owl found within the grasslands and deserts of North and South America. As the name suggests, they nest in burrows. However, they do not make those, rather using the ones made by their previous inhabitants like the red fox or ground squirrels. Although this bird is primarily terrestrial, the burrowing owl can fly.
Unlike most owls, the burrowing owl is active during the day, but it still has night vision.
