Ceratogaulus, also known as the horned gopher, is an extinct fossorial rodent from the clade Mylagaulidae. Living around the Late Miocene to the Early Pliocene, they inhabited in the Great Plains of North America, specifically Nebraska. Ceratogaulus is the only known horned rodent as well as the smallest horned mammal. It is currently unknown as to what the horns were used, however multiple analysis supported the role for defense. They could have been burrowing animals.
