The compass jellyfish (Chrysaora hysoscella) is a species of jellyfish that lives in the coastal waters of the northeastern Atlantic Ocean, which includes the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. It was formally believed to have been recorded in the southeastern Atlantic Ocean, but it turned to be a confusion of its relatives; the purple compass jelly, the Benguela compass jelly, and an undescribed species referred as "C. agulhensis".

Like other scyphozoans, the compass jellyfish undergoes a metamorphosis, where an animal physically develops a relatively abrupt change in its body. Hatching jellyfishes are referred to as polyp, while the adult form is called medusa. Compass jellyfishes feed on other invertebrates and plankton, but also have few predators, for example, the leatherback sea turtle or the ocean sunfish. They capture their prey with oral arms and stun them with stinging cells on their tentacles. Those tentacles facilitate movement of captured prey into the oral opening.

The compass jellyfish contributes to the global issue of jellyfish overpopulation, which is concerning to humans for various reasons such as recreational interference, economic turmoil for fishing communities, and depleted fish resources.
