The eastern imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca) is a species of bird of prey that lives in southeastern Europe and Central Asia, with some migratory populations reaching northeastern Africa, the Middle East and South and East Asia. It is listed as vulnerable by the ICUN. This eagle is an opportunistic predator, eating live prey (primarily smallish mammals, but also birds, reptiles, and other prey types) and carrion. Their breeding season lasts from late March to September.
The eastern imperial eagle can be confused with other species of eagles, particularly the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos).
