The Eurasian griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), also known as the griffon vulture (although this term is sometimes used for the genus Gyps as a whole), is a large Old World vulture in the bird of prey family Accipitridae that lives in many parts of southern Europe and Asia as well as northern Africa, residing in high mountainous areas such as the eastern Atlas Mountains, the eastern Alps, the Tian Shan, and the Altai Mountains, as well as parts of the Iberian Peninsula, Anatolia, the Caucasus, the Arabian Peninsula, the Iranian plateau, the Tian Shan, and the Altai Mountains.
Like all griffon vultures, it has a slim head with a long slender neck covered in downy feathers and surrounded by a ruff formed by long buoyant feathers, the crown of their big beaks is a little compressed and their big dark nostrils are set transverse to the beak. They have 6-7 wing feathers, the first of which is the shortest and the fourth is the longest.
