The European herring gull (Larus argentatus), or simply herring gull, is a large gull that inhabited the northern and western coasts of Europe. It differs from the American herring gull by the color of its beak. The diet consists of fishes, crustaceans, but also plants. The European herring gull is a scavenger as well, fedding on carrion and food left or stolen by humans.
