Identity[]
While the genus/species of the giant lamprey has not been confirmed, one of the biggest and earliest confirmed lampreys of the genus Yanliaomyzon (Yanliaomyzon occisor and Yanliaomyzon ingensdentes) lived in the Yanliao Biota during the Jurassic period between 163 and 158.5 million years ago, with Yanliaomyzon occisor being the largest prehistoric lamprey ever found at 64 centimeters (25 inches) long, which wasn't as big as the giant lamprey in the film.
