The goat (Capra hircus) is a species of bovine mammal that is native to Southwest Asia and Eastern Europe.
History[]
Jurassic Park[]
The goat was hoisted to the surface of the paddocks inside of electric fence via a small lift with a chain around its neck to prevent it from escape; surprisingly the T. rex took no interest in the goat and didn't reveal itself to the group. Hammond's oldest grandchild Lex Murphy expressed her concern for the unfortunate animal (claiming to be a vegetarian at her young age) while her younger brother Tim Murphy seemed to like that the T. rex would eat the goat.
As the group made their way back to the Visitor Center via the electric Tour Vehicles who stopped at the T. rex paddock because their power disappeared the goat had still not been eaten. This time the Tyrannosaurus rex revealed itself and devoured the goat (getting her fill of goat meat in the process), with the leg falling down onto the visible roof of the car, much to the horror of the terrified passengers. With the park security systems shut down (thanks to Dennis Nedry in an attempt to smuggle dinosaur embryos concealed inside a barbasol can); the T. rex proceeded to escape her exhibit and attacked the Tour Vehicles and also devoured Donald Gennaro who had seeked shelter for himself in the T. rex paddock bathrooms which the T. rex destroyed during her chase after Ian Malcolm while he attempted to distract the Rex so Alan Grant could save the kids.
Jurassic World[]
During her time in her new paddock called T. rex Kingdom in Jurassic World who was founded several years later goats was still the main food supply for the T. rex until she got free once again. Unlike the previous goat this individual was a different color breed, having a notable brown pattern.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom[]
When the T. rex three years later was taken from Isla Nublar during the eruption of Mount Sibo to the illegal auction at Lockwood Manor the mercenaries of Eli Mills also used a goat to make the T. rex enter the lift that brought her down to her cage below. This goat was like all goats before her eaten by the T. rex. Ironically this third individual was only portrayed as CGI, unlike the other two that were live-acted by real specimens.
Games[]
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis[]
Goats (alongside red-colored cows) are used as feeding stock for carnivores. They are summoned out of placed feeder platforms and move about, acting like the dinosaur entities by having their own sets of behaviors and emotions. Goats naturally run when in presence of a carnivore dinosaur and will be killed off and eaten.
Jurassic World: Evolution[]
Goats return from JP:OG under the same remote use; to be used as feeding stock for carnivores. This specimen is treated a little differently compared to other appearances, and there's a specific amount of feeder goats that can be summoned at a time before the game begins Despawning the latter entities. But overall, it acts similar to a dinosaur entity and can actually socialize with other dinosaurs (including small carnivores).
On april 1st, 2018, Frontier posted an official April fools species profile where the database becomes corrupted and begins displaying the feeder goat as the species featured. The Automated voice is discernibly confused and broken, given its not even analyzing a Dinosaur.
Jurassic World Evolution 2[]
The goat's role in the sequel to Jurassic World Evolution remains unchanged, but it now is possible for newly introduced pterosaurs to terrorize and prey upon helpless goats in the game.
Jurassic World: Alive[]
In Jurassic World Alive, the Goat was introduced as a new common wild card NPC boss type enemy for April Fools and became a staple joke mascot for Ludia's mobile experience.
At level 30 with boosts, the goat NPC is the most overly powerful creature in the entire game, and the most powerful common creature in the meta. It has more than 2 moves as a common creature and can use a variety of abilities. It is notably powerful enough to tear apart a maxed unique hybrid and has high super-armor ratings. The goat however is extremely susceptible to Buffed rend moves, as Thylos intrepidus can one-shot it after using a prowl move. During the ungulate strike events players could win scents, incubators, and spin supply drops themed around the goat.
In the next few April Fools updates, 3 variants of the goat boss were introduced: Lil Gruff, Billy Gruff, and Biggie Gruff.
Lil Gruff is a rare wild card boss goat that has been notably shrunken down to small size (par its name), but still packs a punch. It inflicts multiple amounts of D.O.T (wounding) and is half as resilient as the regular goat but can easily be one-shotted by most armor piercing rampage moves.
Billy Gruff is the middle sibling of the goats, and an epic wild card boss. Billy Gruff possesses stun-based moves and is extremely difficult to defeat. It appears to innately sense creatures with buff and rend moves and will use all means of stun abilities to prevent knockouts but is actually vulnerable to damage-over-time moves.
Biggie Gruff is the largest of the goat siblings, and a legendary wild card boss. Biggie Gruff (alongside the raid bosses, Lord Lythronax, All-powerful Dodo) are the largest creatures in the entire game. Biggie Gruff can seem intimidating to some as it towers over even the sauropods but knowing its weaknesses can easily dispose of it. Not much is known about Biggie Gruff as it only appeared for a temporary time.
Outside of boss battles, the goat appears in sanctuaries as feeder material, but would ironically be the full cause of it turning into an NPC boss. The goat also appears as various emotes, and an emblem based on it can be achieved by attaining a draw in a PVP battle.
In 2022, a new campaign course centered around joke bosses was introduced called the "special test". All of the boss goats (except for Biggie Gruff) returned in this course in variating difficulty. beating the goats would reward the player special incubators and goat scents. This is the only current way to fight the goat bosses as of said update.
On Halloween of 2022, Ludia promoted the newest update by releasing a Halloween-themed trailer in which a goat is spooked and attacked by scorpions, specifically a group of Pulmonoscorpius and an Alacranix. A puzzle was also promoted on Ludia's various sites as a way to earn special rewards with links.
Trivia[]
- In Jurassic Park (1990), there was plans for a sound cue score that would have played when the feeder goat emerged in the T. rex paddock. this was scrapped.
- In Jurassic World: Alive, the goat bosses in the special test campaign course bizarrely retain their old "passive immunity" abilities, which are heavily outdated as of 2018. this is either an oversight or an unchangeable fault from Ludia's part.
- Biggie Gruff is the only goat boss that cannot be fought in Special test.
- The goat has been regarded as a gag symbol in the Jurassic Park franchise, given its numerous appearances across films, video games, and such forth. It's for this reason that it managed to appear in at least 3 films, and 4 video games, with very similar roles.
- In the Jurassic Park franchise (specifically the games), the Dodo is treated very similarly to the goat. In Jurassic World: The Game, the dodo was originally a feeder animal for Cenozoic carnivores before an April fools update introduced a Boss dodo creature known as "Death Dodo", just like with the goat in Jurassic World: Alive.
- The goat boss variants are a likely parody of the titular characters of the fairytale Three Billy Goats Gruff.
- Most of the goat's moves in Jurassic World: Alive are pun-related, usually to do with ungulates.
- It Just Goat Real (It just "got" real), scapegoat (a sabotaging but clever maneuver or cheating quirk), Wounding Headbutt (goats often headbutt instinctively), Lethal Chevon (chevon is goat meat used for food), Unbleatable (un"beat"able), Pan's Exploit (Pan is the ancient greek god of the wild, and often connected to the goats in nature), Gruff n' Tumble (gruff is a name for goats, gruff n' tumble is a wordplay pun), Udderly Stunning (goats have udders like cows), chewing rampage (goats chew frequently), terrible bleating (goats "bleat" to vocalize), stiff leg (goats have rather sturdy leg movement), stunning meadow (goats have a natural amenity of meadows, the natural large green grass hills), Kick Out! (goats kick like other hooved creatures as an attack), Mutton with You (to fool or trick), Bleat of Annihilation (goat vocalization), Capricorn Fury (Capricorn is the goat-themed astral constellation) Maahd Impact (goats and sheeps often "Maaa'" as a vocalization).
- "Just Kidding" is a foreshadow move that refers to the nature of foolhardy players who believe to have the upper hand against the goat.
- Goats in Jurassic World: Alive when approached by a cat-rig creature or killed in battle will enter a state similar to feigning death or collapsing like a metal trash can lid, as they completely flop straight on the side flawlessly.
- Goats in Jurassic World: Alive share a minor amount of animations with that of the Deer-rigs (Megaloceros), but otherwise are completely unique to the game.
- The goat is considered the closest era creature to ever be fully represented in Jurassic World: Alive, a few decades ahead of the dodo, the Rodrigues solitaire, and the Haast eagle (1500-1617). though this is ironically because it is a domesticated creature that still exists in real life.
- While the goat in JP:OG, JWE/JWE2, JWA, and JP/JW:FK share the generally same to similar color pattern, the specimen seen in Jurassic world is the only unique specimen as it has a brown coloring.
- The goat, Raptor pen pig, and Raptor feeder cow are the only major gag/non-extinct creatures to be recognized in the Jurassic franchise overall, given their appearances in the media.
