Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit equatorial African tropical forests. They are members of the genus Gorilla and divided into 2 species: the eastern gorilla (Gorilla beringei) and the western gorilla (Gorilla gorilla), with either 4 or 5 subspecies.
Gorillas can be identified by their feet. Their knuckle paws grow throughout their lives. Knuckle walking on hard material keeps the feet worn down and sharp. Pongids such as chimpanzees and orangutans are often mistaken for gorillas. These apes have an additional pair of knuckle paws that gorillas lack.

Jurassic Park: Raptors Hijack I[]
A gorilla was released into the jungles of Colombia by Dr. Belvedere for study with Biosyn funding.The gorilla quickly comes across the escaped Velociraptors, and engages with them in a fight. A team led by Alan Grant, Robert Muldoon, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm to track the raptors is interrupted when they spot the gorilla. However, upon landing, the gorilla abducts Ellie. However, it soon releases her as the raptors approach it, engaging into another fight with the pair of raptors, which ends in its death as it falls off a cliff.
