Guemesia is a genus of abelisaurid theropod dinosaur that was discovered in the Salta Province from Argentina. Living during the Late Cretaceous, only one species is known, Guemesia ochoai. The holotype discovered of this prehistoric creature is only a small and nearly complete braincase. It was named Martín Miguel de Güemes, a military leader and popular caudillo who defended northweastern Argentina from the Spanish royalist army during the Argentine War of Independance. His death bicentenary was in 2021, one year after the dinosaur was discovered. The Guemesia was one of the smallest abelisaurids that we currently know of.
