Story[]
Like InGen's cloned theropods, Herrerasaurus clones had pronated hands. The Herrerasaurus clones had a bright red body with dark red stripes, and white underbelly and some yellow patches. They roamed in packs[1] and their willingness to pursue their prey over long distances made them highly dangerous.
When those on Isla Sorna reached a certain age, they would be shipped to the neighboring island Isla Nublar in the Herrerasaur Paddock of Jurassic Park, which was planned for Phase 1 of the park.[2]
Isla Nublar Incident (1993)[]
At the time of the Isla Nublar Incident of 1993, the Herrerasaurus living in Jurassic Park were not fully grown.[3]
Herrerasaurus was in the Jurassic Park Brochure, as an attraction for Phase I.
When Dennis Nedry disabled Jurassic Park's security, Herrerasaurus, along with many other dinosaurs, were able to freely go outside of their paddocks.[4]
Herrerasaurus had very little involvement in the incident and farthest they were known to go outside of their paddock was the nearby Bone Shaker roller coaster.
This pack attacked Dr. Gerry Harding, his daughter Jess Harding, and their captor Nima as they try to use the Bone Shaker as a way down. They jump onto the roller coaster cars but are successfully fended off, thrown off into the jungle below.[1]
It is unknown if they survived the fall, but with having hollow bones and diminutive size it's highly unlikely. It is also unknown if there were any existing and surviving populations on Isla Nublar after the Isla Nublar Incident of 1993 or if there were any on Isla Sorna after Hurricane Clarissa.

Description[]
- Herrerasaurus was a small carnivore from the Late Triassic Period, one of the oldest carnivores known. This dinosaur had a flexible jaw that allowed it to grip on to its prey. Based on its size, it likely hunted small and medium hebivores. Fossil evidence suggests that this dinosaur was capable of digesting bone.
Discovery[]
- The first Herrerasaurus specimens were discovered in 1959 by Andean goatherd Victorino Herrera. Herrera spotted the fossils in surface level rock of the Ischigualasto Formation near the city of San Juan, Argentina. Paleontologist Osvaldo Rig named the dinosaur after Herrera, and initially classified it as a Carnosaur, the group that contains, among others, Carcharodontosaurus, Allosaurus, and Metriacanthosaurus. The fragmentary nature of the initial specimens made a conclusive classification difficult, but in 1988, a near complete skeleton was discovered, again in Argentina. Since the discovery, Herrerasaurus has been classified as completely distinct from theropods, despite superficial similarities.
Paleoecology[]
- The Ischigualasto Formation was likely a warm, humid, forest-covered floodplain, subject to volcanic activity and strong rainy seasons. Ferns, horsetails, and giant conifers would have been common plants.
Trivia[]
- Herrerasaurus is the first Triassic dinosaur in the game.
- Herrerasaurus supports its own unique animation set.
