The hyacinth macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) is a species of parrot that lives in the rainforests of South America. It is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN for habitat loss and poaching for pet trades. While it is a blue parrot, there is another species that is blue: the Lear's macaw (Anodorhynchus leari). Also, the color is more specifically hyacinth, thus the name. The diet of the hyacinth macaw is composed of nuts that come from palm trees. The bird is more calmer than other macaws, being referred to as "gentle giants".
