Jack is a blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna) owned by the Degler family during the events of Jurassic Park III.
Personality[]
Not much is known about Jack's personality, as he does not have any lines in the film. In a scrapped line from the film, Jack curses at a statement made by Dr. Alan Grant. This could suggest that Jack is quite a rude bird, although this may also be because either Ellie or Mark Degler had taught the bird to say such a phrase.
Appearance[]
Jack is a macaw of blue-and-yellow coloring. His eyes are a greyish-green color, and he possesses a sharp, black beak. His age is unknown, although a macaw with grey eyes is typically quite young.
Jack's Cage[]
Jack has a large cage, situated in the Degler family's dining room, with a reasonably large door and a lock on the left side of the opening. The cage has a toy hanging in the corner with a small bell attached to it. When Alan walks towards the dining table, another toy can be seen on the opposite side of the cage, also with a small bell attached. Jack also seems to be perched on something, although this object is never seen.
History[]
Jurassic Park III[]
Jack first appears when Alan is having dinner with Ellie and Mark Degler. Alan stands by the bird's cage, holding a treat. He questions the macaw to see if it remembers his name, although he receives no response. Ellie laughs, and Grant moves towards the dining table. This is the bird's last appearance in the franchise. There is no indication of what happened to the animal after the third film.
Trivia[]
- Jack is not seen speaking in the final film, but in a scrapped scene from the script, when Alan and Ellie are discussing the Velociraptor pack communication theory, Jack squawks the phrase "Bullshit!".
- In Jurassic Park III, Alan states that Jack used to know him, and Ellie responds with a laugh. In the script for the film, Ellie has an unsaid line that reads "Sorry, Alan, it's been six years.". This suggests that the parrot was alive six years prior to the events of Jurassic Park III, in the year 1995. Alan and Ellie broke up in 1995, hinting that Ellie took full custody of the bird. This would explain the "six years" reference.
- It is very likely that Jack was named after Jack Horner.
- Macaws can live to the age of fifty, meaning that it is possible that Jack would still have been alive during the events of Jurassic World: Dominion.
- Alongside the pelicans that appeared in the ending of the first movie, Jack can be argued as the most scientifically accurate dinosaur in the franchise. This is due to the fact that birds are dinosaurs from a scientific point.
