The Jack Dempsey (Rocio octofasciata), also called the Jack Dempsey cichlid or Jack Dempsey fish, is a species of cichlid fish that lives in the freshwater habitats from Mexico to Honduras, but has been introduced elsewhere like Australia, the United States, and Thailand. Its diet consists of worms, crustaceans, insects, and small fishes.
It is named after the famous 1920s boxer Jack Dempsey due to its aggressive nature and strong facial features. It is also a popular aquarium fish because of its striking appearance and personable mannerisms.
