Longwings, also known as heliconius butterflies or heliconians, are brush-footed butterflies in the genus Heliconius that lives in the tropical regions of South America as far north as the southern United States. These butteflies have bright wing color patterns that signal their distastefulness to potential predators.

It has been brought to the forefront of scientific attention by Victorian naturalists due to their striking diversity and mimicry. The reasons they have been a subject of many studies is partly due to their abondance, the relative ease of breeding them under laboratory conditions, and the extensive mimicry that occurs in this group.
