Malta, officially the Republic of Malta, is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of an archipelago, between Italy and Libya, and is often considered a part of Southern Europe. Its capital is Valletta, where an illegal dinosaur market has been established. After the operation led by CIA and the French intelligence in 2022, the market was presumably shut down.

Behind the scenes[]

Jurassic World: Dominion was filmed in Malta in late August 2020.[2] Due to four first-unit crew members being tested positive for COVID, a second-unit crew (stunts) was sent to shoot in Malta instead.[3] The underground market set and sections of Valletta's streets were built at Pinewood Studios due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Jurassic World: Rebirth was filmed in Malta in July 2024, which the director Gareth Edwards described the shooting as ‘very difficult’ in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, due to the physically demanding conditions the open sea provided, both for cast and crew.[4][5] The scenes where The Essex ship cruises the ocean were shot in Malta and for special effects reference. Both The Essex and La Mariposa were faithfully replicated by the special effects and art department construction teams. Every piece of deck equipment and every fitting was reproduced in exact detail. These replica boats were then mounted on massive hydraulic gimbals at the deep and shallow water tanks at the Malta Film Studios, enabling complex water sequences to be filmed with precision and control.[6]
