Mateo is a Hispanic-American child from Oakland, California. He is the biological son of Mariana, the stepson of Dennis and the stepbrother of Kadasha and an unnamed baby.
Mateo was portrayed by American child actor Pierson Salvador in the short film Battle at Big Rock.
Background[]
Mateo was born in Oakland, California and is the son of Mariana, a Hispanic-American woman also from Oakland, an unknown father. At some point before 2017, Mariana seperated from Mateo's father.
At an unknown point after seperating, Mariana met Dennis, an African-American also from Oakland and the father of Kadasha. By 2017, Dennis and Mariana married thus bringing their families together and Dennis became Mateo's step-father, Kadasha becoming his step-sister. Mateo and Kadasha somewhat got along but getting used to being siblings was rocky.
Battle at Big Rock[]
Two years after his mother married Dennis, Mateo embarked along with his family to Big Rock National Park in Northern California. The family was then subject to an attack by an Allosaurus.
Behind the Scenes[]
Mateo was portrayed by American child actor Pierson Salvador. As no casting calls were held in order to maintain secrecy of the project, a casting director friend of Colin Trevorrow searched for child actors and chose Pierson Salvador and Melody Hurd.
Trivia[]
- Mateo bares some similarities to Lex Murphy, sharing in common no interest in dinosaurs and being the sibling of someone who likes dinosaurs. Also like Lex, Mateo has a specific interest - in his case magic, in Lex's case computer coding.
- Although Mariana is Hispanic-American, it is possible (based on Pierson Salvador's casting) that Mateo is actually mixed-race due to the race / ethnicity of his biological father being unknown.
