Megalonyx is a genus of extinct ground sloth from Virginia, in what is now the United States Of America during the Pleistocene epoch. Megalonyx was relativrly medium-sized compared to the other giant sloths like Megatherium and Eremotherium, but it was named after its large, blunt claws which it most liekly used to forage for leaves on trees with its ability to rear on its hindlegs and tail.
