Nanotyrannus (meaning "dwarf tyrant") is a genus of tyrannosauriod theropod dinosaur that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous period. In 2020, following a study conducted by Thomas Carr into the growth series of Tyrannosaurus, Nanotyrannus was formerly considered a synonym of Tyrannosaurus, being its juvenile growth stage.
However, a study published in 2024 claimed that the specimens were nearly adults and if they really were Tyrannosaurus, they would not have been at that stage such as their longer arms. Despite the 2024 study, many scientists still said that Nanotyrannus was a juvenile Tyrannosaurus but the genus remained dubious.
However, a study published in October 2025 established Nanotyrannus as a valid genus and having a second species called Nanotyrannus lethaeus.
