Nest III is the twentieth chapter in the Fourth Configuration. It shows the Biosyn group attempting to steal eggs from a Tyrannosaurus rex nest, however, mishap occurs.
Plot[]
Lewis Dodgson brings the jeep to a halt again, however this time. the Biosyn trio hear a low rumbling growl and Dodgson feels vibration that makes the car keys rattle. Howard King and George Baselton are full of fear as a tall and enormous Tyrannosaurus rex appears. Dogdson initially thinks of moving to nest with less aggressive dinosaurs, then regains his confidence. King affirms the batteries for the box are charged but is still scared unlike Baselton. The celebrity biologist recounts John Roxton's paper that a T.rex sees only motion and one should stay still to avoid the T.rex from spotting it and he believes that theory. King is shut down by Dodgson and Baselton recalls how he's clever in educating ill-informed others and feels confident.
The other Tyrannosaurus appear and both initially ignore Dodgson. He starts up his device and in response, the dinosaur roar scaring King again yet Dodgson remains calm and increases the volume to an ear-shattering pitch. The T.rexes shift back, duck their heads and blink their eyes. The two parents check their nest and shake their heads, indicating care for their young and clearing their vision. As with the Maiasaura previously, they urinate and Dodgson yells at his companions to quickly take the eggs. King manages although steps on an infant T.rex's leg, however, Baselton loses his confidence and cannot complete the order despite Dodgson cries. Dodgson thus enters the nest and the battery plug snaps, shutting down his device. The adult T.rexes now note the sudden silence and both Dodgson and Baselton remember Roxton's paper and stay still. Suddenly, the T.rrexes move towards Baselton.
In the trailer, Arby cries, wondering why the men stay still remembers what Kelly Curtis said earlier, teasing her, however she shuts him down. Ian Malcolm over the radio responds to Arby that the Biosyn duo aren't crazy and Sarah Harding also wonders why Dodgson doesn't plug back his device and also wonders why he's standing there. The chapter ends with Malcolm saying they read the incorrect paper.
