Nest IV is the twenty-third chapter in the Fourth Configuration. Malcolm, Thorne, Harding and Eddie inspect the Tyrannosaurus rex nest damaged by the Biosyn group.

Sarah Harding smells familiar rotten flesh and excrement, common with carnivore's nesting sites. As she takes one of the Lindstradt rifles, the men, Ian Malcolm, Jack Thorne and Eddie Carr look tense with Malcolm pale. She recalled her professor Coffmann, who was drunk at a carnivore kill site in a savannah. She had to drag his two hundred pound unconscious body while threatened by lions. She then confidently told the others she could investigate the damage herself if they are too scared. Harding enters, noticing the remains of George Baselton, a cry, two infant Tyrannosaurus rex and three eggs. Malcolm remarks the Biosyn group took one egg. Sarah understands that stealing disrupts the ecosystem and notice one of the T.rexes is injured.
Over the radio and in the High Hide, Richard Levine asks for a description of the situation. He tells the investigating group to take caution as with such young infants, the adults might return to protect them. As Eddie moves closer, the injured T.rex bites his boot, naturally frightening him. Sarah is naturally calm, remarking that the infant is already aggressive from birth. Malcolm remarks they've seen all and need to chase down Lewis Dodgson and Howard King, lest the duo steal more eggs. He orders Eddie to shoot the injured infant and Sarah agrees, warning Eddie to do it quickly before the parents return.
