Parasaurolophus is a genus of hadrosaurid, sometimes referred to as the duck-billed dinosaurs, from the late Cretaceous. It is a herd animal feeding on the park’s rich vegetation. The most stunning feature of the Parasaurolophus is the crest on its head, used for communication.

Characteristics[]

The Parasaurolophus were described as being a dark greenish color and are among the few dinosaurs to have their physical appearance shown on the island map and most additions of the novel. It had a symbiotic relationship with the Apatosaurus similar to baboons and zebras in Africa: the Parasaurs would watch out for predators, while the Apatosaurs protected them.[2]

History[]

Creation[]

Parasaurolophus was one of the many dinosaurs present on Isla Sorna, and were created by InGen sometime during the 80s. It is unknown what genetic revision these dinosaurs were a part of, nor were they ever part of the Nublar resort, so it is unknown where these animals were planned to be displayed. Following InGen abandonment of the island after their incident, the Parasaurolophus were allowed to roam the island freely alongside other dinosaurs that remained here.

1995 Isla Sorna Expedition[]

A herd of these animals live near the river close to a Apatosaurus herd and could be visible from the gatherers high in a symbiotic relationship with the larger dinosaurs. The large Apatosaurus give protection, whereas the smaller and weaker Parasaurolophus have better eyes and can warn the dinosaurs for predators.

When he was on Isla Sorna, Richard Levine studies the creatures from the High Hide. The dinosaurs begin calling to one another, and Levine decides to try and mimic the calls, only to attract the dinosaurs and get them moving into the forest. Levine followed by tractor dinosaurs to where they find them urinating and defecating in particular areas finding Procompsognathus eating their feces. Eddie Carr then appears to pick Richard up, to which he refuses at first until he is yelled at.
