The Patagonian toothfish, also known as Chilean sea bass, mero or icefish, is a species of cod icefish that lives in the cold waters of the south of oceans. It has a close relative, the Antarctic toothfish, which is found even farther south.

The Patagonian and Antarctic toothfish are sometimes marketed as "Chilean sea bass" in the United States or Canada. Interestingly, this name was invented by a fish wholesaler named Lee Lantz in 1977 in order to make it attractive to the American market. In the United Kingdom, the designation is "icefish" or "toothfish". This created some confusion, because an actual "icefish" from subantarctic waters does not resemble a "toothfish" in any way. In Singapore, the Patagonian toothfish is marketed as a type of cod.

The diet of the Patagonian toothfish consists of smaller fishes.
