Pit vipers, also called pitvipers, pit adders, pit-adders, or crotalines, are vipers in the subfamily Crotalinae found in Asia and the Americas. Like the other vipers, they are venomous. This group includes rattlesnakes, lanceheads, and Asian pit vipers. The type genus is Crotalus, of which the type species is the timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus).
History[]
Jurassic World Incident[]
DNA of a pit viper was used in the creation of the Indominus rex for opening her mandibles and jaws widely, specifically at around 90 degrees. However, it also gave her special cavities in the skull that allowed her to use infrared vision, which helped her see the heat coming from her prey in dark areas.
Games[]
Jurassic World Evolution[]
The DNA of the Venezuela forest pit viper (Bothrops medusa) is used for the Aggressive Instincts trait gene to increase a dinosaur's attack and defense traits.
