Bio[]
Profile[]
- Polacanthus eat from ground herbivore feeders. They are heavily armored and can strike each other and fight predators using their heavy club tails.
- They are the shyest of ankylosaurids and live in tiny social groups and prefer to have few dinosaurs of other species close to them.
- Their ideal territory consists of modest areas of grassland and little forest.

Description[]
- Polacanthus was an ankylosaurian (armored) dinosaur found in the UK. Its name means 'many-thorned lizard' from the spikes upon its back.
- Although armored like other genera in its family, it lacks the defensive tail spikes seen on others.
Discovery[]
- The first Polacanthus remains were discovered on the Isle of Wight in the UK in 1865. The holotype skeleton was later excavated from the Wessex Formation.
Paleoecology[]
- The Wessex Formation has revealed a wide variety of flora and fauna, including numerous aquatic creatures. This indicates a coastal environment with waterways and plains.
