The purple cone (Conus purpurascens), also commonly called as the purple shell or the South Sea cone shell, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Conidae, the cone snails and their allies. It can be found in the central Pacific islands.
Like all species within the genus Conus, these snails are predatory and venomous. They are capable of "stinging" humans, therefore live ones should be handled carefully or not at all. Conantokin-P is a toxin derived from its venom.
History[]
Isla Sorna Incident (1997)[]
The purple cone's deadly neurotoxin was used in the Lindstradt Air Gun, owned by Eddie Carr.
- "It's the most powerful neurotoxin the world. Acts within a 2000th of a second making it faster than the nerve conduction velocity. So the animal is down before it feels the prick of the dart."
