The roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), often called the western roe deer, western roe, European roe, European roe deer, or simply roe, is a species of deer. The term "roebuck" is occasionally used to describe the species' male. A tiny, reddish-brown deer, the roe is ideally suited to cold climates. From the Mediterranean to Scandinavia, from Scotland to the Caucasus, and even as far east as northern Iran, the species is found primarily throughout Europe.
History[]
