Saltriovenator is a genus of ceratosaurian that lived during the Early Jurassic in what is now Italy. It was discovered on August 4, 1996 during a search for ammonites. In 2000, during a special exhibiton of the bones from a museum, it was given the name "Saltriosauro", meaning "Saltriosaurus" in Italian. Although it has been Latinised, it remains a nomen dubium until December 2018. The only species known is Saltriovenator zanellai. According to the autors, the "venator" comes from the fact that it was also the name of a type of Roman gladiator.
Saltriovenator is the largest known theropod that lived during the Early Jurassic, reaching a length of 7,3 m. It is the third named dinosaur that comes from Italy, the first being Scipionyx and the second being Tethyshadros.
