The scarlet macaw (Ara macao), also called the red-and-yellow macaw, red-and-blue macaw, or red-breasted macaw, is a large Neotropical parrot with yellow, red, and blue feathers native to the American humid evergreen forests, its range extending from southeastern Mexico to Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Honduras (where it is the national bird), and Brazil in lowlands of 500 meters (1,600 feet) (at least formerly) up to 1,000 meters (3,300 feet), the Caribbean island of Trinidad, and the Pacific island of Coiba; the northern extent of its range formerly included southern Tamaulipas. In some areas, it has suffered local extinction because of habitat destruction and capture for the parrot trade, but it remains fairly common in other areas. Like its relative the blue-and-yellow macaw, the scarlet macaw is a popular bird in aviculture as a result of its striking plumage, and is the third most common macaw species in captivity after the blue-and-yellow and red-and-green macaw (Ara chloropterus) respectively. In recent years it has become much rarer in captivity and much more expensive in price due to stricter laws, higher than even red-and-green macaws.
Games[]
Jurassic World Evolution[]
Scarlet macaws can be seen flying from forested areas when they are cleared and can appear when plants like the Tropical Forest Tree are placed.
Comics[]
Jurassic Park: Raptors Attack[]
Scarlet macaws appear is on the cover of Issue 3. While a macaw or some other parrot appeared in a scene where the Velociraptors ate a jaguar, it was not confirmed if it was a scarlet macaw.
Trivia[]
- While this species was not officially identified or confirmed to appear in the game, the scarlet macaw may possibly have been the "Tropical Bird" whose DNA was among the modern animal DNA included in Minecraft Jurassic World. It is required for the creation of the hybrids Claridon and Pluma raptor.
