- "Keep it steady!"
- —Sharpshooter(src)
The Sharpshooter was an agent for the US Fish & Wildlife Service. During the federal government's hunt for Rexy the Tyrannosaurus, he was tasked with capturing her. One night he got lucky. Riding in the back of a helicopter with the door taken off so he could fire his tranquilizer rifle unobstructed, he thought he'd get his chance to take the carnivore down.
Matters were complicated by the dinosaur blundering into a crowded drive-in theater, where there were many panicked innocent bystanders. He yelled at the pilot to keep the chopper steady. He had Rexy in his sights when suddenly a couple in a Chrysler Sebring, panicking and attempting to drive away, almost collided with the animal's huge legs. She jerked back in involuntary surprise just as the sharpshooter fired. The tranquilizer dart missed the Tyrannosaur and stuck into the Sebring's windshield, missing the driver's head by inches.
Frustrated that he'd missed, the gunman complained that he couldn't see Rexy anymore. She'd escaped. He was told by the pilot to calm down because they'd get the dinosaur eventually. And he was right; Ramsay Cole later informed Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler that the T. rex had been apprehended by Fish and Wildlife after chasing it for three years and brought to Biosyn's sanctuary, although it was unclear if the same team who'd failed to catch her at the drive-in were the same ones who finally got her.
