The snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus) is a species of hare that is found within North America. It is given the name "snowshoe" because of the large size of its hind feet and its fur coat, which turns white in winter and brown in summer. This is an adaptation to avoid predators, also known as camouflage. A major predator is the Canada lynx. Its relation with the snowshoe hare has become known by biologist students as a case study of the relationship between predators and prey.

In Sierra Nevada, a snowshoe hare is stalked by two Velociraptors named Blue and her daughter Beta as food. However, the hare is killed by a wolf, which prompted Beta to pounce the animal. Two nearby hunters also tried to kill the hare, but were killed by Blue when they decided to hunt her daughter instead.
