Description[]

Spinosaurus lived in North Africa, and was the largest known theropod and land carnivore to have ever existed. Its name mean 'spiny lizard' because of the distinctive spine forming a sail on its back.
It had an elongated snout, more like a Gharial's compared to other theropods. It is believed that they hunted in water as well as on land.

Discovery[]

The first Spinosaurus discovery occurred in 1921 in the Baharyia Formation of Western Egypt. Other specimens have been recovered from other sites in North Africa including Morocco and Niger.

Paleoecology[]

The fossil locations indicate that Spinosaurus lived in coastal regions with floodplains, swamp flats and mango forests.

Trivia[]

  • The Spinosaurus in Jurassic World: Evolution was much smaller than the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park III, but since the 1.4 update, has now become larger than its canon counterpart.
  • The Jungle Pattern was unlocked as a reward during a 24 hour charity livestream.
