The spot-tail mantis shrimp (Squilla mantis) is a species of mantis shrimp that can only be found in the shallow coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean. They dig burrows, remaining in it during the day. It comes out at night for hunting and in the winter to mate.
It is an opportunistic predator and scavenger, eating anything they could eat, including themselves. They could feed on the eggs of the common cuttlefish. It also has been observed following fishing boats to feed on dead animals.
