Stenonychosaurus is an extinct genus of troodontid theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous of Dinosaur Park Formation of Alberta, Canada and possibly the Two Medicine Formation. There is only one species, S. inequalis who was reassigned in 1987 by Phil Currie to the genus Troodon. However, it was reverted by the recognition as a separate genus in 2017 by Van der Reest and Currie.

Stenonychosaurus is mentioned in the novel. John Roxton discovered what he believed to be a Velociraptor skeleton in Mongolia. However, it was actually a Stenonychosaurus skeleton. The fossil discovered had impressions of its skin. However, Stenonychosaurus lived in the Dinosaur Park formation in Canada, not in Mongolia, where there are other troodontid species.
