The swordfish (Xiphias gladius), also called the broadbill in some countries, is a species of migratory billfish that lives in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. It is characterized by a long, flat, pointed bill used for swiping food, fighting for females, and defense against predators. When reaching adulthood, the fish loses all of its teeth and scales. The swordfish is one of 22 species of fish (including other billfish like marlin and sailfish, tuna, and some sharks) known to have a heat-conservation mechanism.
It is among the fastest fishes on Earth, reaching a speed of 36 kilometers per hour. Predators of swordfishes are known, such as the killer whale and the shortfin mako: a fast species of shark that preys on them alongside other rapid fishes. It is also believed that sperm whales could prey on swordfishes on rare occasions.

Games[]
Jurassic Park: Builder[]
Though it did not appear in any form in the game itself, the swordfish was mentioned in an evolution fact for Protosphyraena alongside marlins, stating that Protosphyraena looked like either. Both billfish were also seen with a sailfish in a promotional ad for the game, specifically in a true or false quiz on if swordfish were related to Protosphyraena.
