Thorne II is the sixth chapter in the Fifth Configuration. Here Doc Thorne continues to rush towards the falling trailers to rescue Malcolm and Harding, facing difficulties.

Plot[]

Following the events in the previous chapter, Jack Thorne is rushing through heavy rain and muddy ground towards the two falling trailers, counting down the time left to reach them. As he drives through a large puddle, the vehicle electrics short-circuited, stopping it. He tries the ignition again yet it cannot start and Eddie radios in, learning about the fault. Thorne judges the distance too be more than a mile. Nevertheless, he grabs a Lindstradt rifle and the radio and runs, suddenly encountering the jeep abandoned by Howard King. The keys were still in and he drives the jeep along the ridge road, finally spotting the old InGen laboratory, his headlights shining on the two adult Tyrannosaurus rex still pushing the trailer. The T.rex are confused again, then seem to charge at the jeep and Thorne reverses until he realizes they aren't chasing him. They instead were heading across the clearing to check on their infant which they left on a tree. He guesses his presence made the dinosaurs uneasy about their offspring. Thorne wonders if the dinosaurs have truly left them hears a metallic sound. The second trailer is sliding towards the cliff.

Still in the High Hide, Kelly Curtis wonders what Thorne is up to. Richard Levine replies Thorne is driving around a tree and Eddie adds Thorne must be running a cable around it. Thorne manages with some difficulty to hook the free end of the cable to the brake cover of the trailer, which strains it against the jeep. Eddie informs Thorne that the trailers' connector may soon snap, giving Thorne another challenge. He asks if there's rope and finally learns there is in the utility locker of the trailer.
