Tim Murphy, like most of the cast from the original film, is one of the recurring characters within the comic series. However, Tim and his sister’s inclusion is rather minor, but no less significant. Only appearing in two of the comics being the first and second to last comics produced under the Jurassic Park license.
Jurassic Park Comic Adaption (1993)[]
Tim in the comic adaption of the movie functions, identical to his film counterpart. Being the young dinosaur enthusiast that idol Grant, sharing his enthusiasm for dinosaurs.
Issue #2 & #3[]
Tim and his sister arrive at Jurassic Park where they gleefully run into their grandfathers arms. From there Tim follows Grant everywhere until all everyone gets in the tour cars. Both kids are left disappointed at the fact that the first two enclosures that they pass they do not see any dinosaurs. (However, Lex is thankful she didn’t have to see the brutal carnage of the T-Rex eating a goat, while, Tim is disappointed at the lack of Gore.)
Tim and Lex chase after the adults as they follow, Grant through a gap in the fence, where they encounter a sick triceratops. The group, then try and figure out what’s causing the animal its sickness. When Tim discovers a pile of strength, rocks would turn out to be gastroliths (regurgitative rocks, swallowed by the dinosaur to help grind up food). Everyone then manages to piece together that the triceratops has been accidentally swallowing, poisonous berries when it swallows the stones getting the animal sick every six weeks.
Everyone but Ellie decides to move on with the tour as the storms encroaching on the area. The day quickly turns to night and into an episode when Rexy escapes her paddock after Dennis Nedry sabotages the Park's systems. While Tim and Lex are in danger from the T-Rex, as Lex had turned on the flashlight, she found in the car. Grant attempts to lure the T-Rex away from the children, except Malcolm flees in a panic, ruining Grants plan to lure the rex away with a flare. Grant and the children must now flee to safety.

Issue 4[]
After escaping the Rex, Tim is retrieved from inside of the car. Using the map he had from the brochure, Grant leads the two kids through the Rex paddock and deeper into the park to hopefully find civilization. Worrying that they may run into the dinosaur again. Grant ushers Tim and his sister up in a tree to sleep, only to be met with a herd of brachiosaurus the following morning.
the trio trek through the park, eventually coming to the perimeter fence. The three of them attempt to climb the fence. All the while unknowingly Ellie is rebooting the central systems and the power shed. Tim is shocked by the power however, he is left, mostly unharmed.
Once arriving at the now empty visitor center, Grant leaves the kids to find the others. upon Grant leaving, a pair of velociraptors, follow him and Lex into the kitchen, where the two kids are promptly stalked. Tim leads one of the Raptors into the freezer, where he probably trapped it in there meanwhile, causes a raptor to run into a reflection of her.
Running out of the kitchen, the two kids run into Grant and Ellie, and are all pursued by a velociraptor to the control room. Once Lex gets the power back on, Grant calls Hammond and tells him to send the helicopters before the raptor breaks through the glass and chases the humans up into the vents.
The raptor pounces at the humans from the scaffolding onto the skeleton where it would then collapse. Several bones almost hitting Tim. When all hope seems lost, the T-Rex comes in at the last moment, and kills the remaining two Raptors.
The four of them unite with Hammond and Malcolm in the Jeep, where they all make it to the helicopter. Grant makes one final remark to the kids about taking a good long look at the dinosaurs, and Isla Nublar, as it may be the last time they ever see it again.
Notes:
- The car Tim is trapped in does not get stuck in the tree like it doesn’t the film. However, Tim is just as shook up and even cries.
- Tim does not fall to unconsciousness after he is zapped by the fence, leaving only a somewhat funny remark.
Jurassic Park: Redemption[]
Issue #1[]
Tim Murphy, now a full grown adult, speaks with an unknown benefactor, who is willing to help him achieve his dream of reopening Jurassic Park. Tim reminds the man that he’s interested more in the science and not the money of the operation. Before they log off the call, however, Tim ask his benefactor if they will be breeding any velociraptors for the park to which, they reply, “Not a one.”
Years later, Tim has been secretly working with Dr. Wu and Robert Bakker on building his dream park. All the while, he manages an elephant attraction under his grandfather’s name called, “John Hammond’s Pachyderm Paddock.” Once questioned about this mysterious project, Tim says it will be ready in a month time.
Notes:
- Tim and his sister, for some reason are redheads instead of being blonde.
- “John Hammond’s Pachyderm Paddock“ maybe a reference to pachyderm portfolio from the novel
- Tim has been longing to reclaim the Amber piece from his grandfather‘s cane from the secondhand market.
Issue #2[]
Tim wakes from a horrible nightmare in which a Carnotaurus attacks an unsuspecting cattle rancher. The following morning, Tim is under pressure and guilt from the real dinosaur possibly doing the very same thing only on a much larger scale. His private benefactor, however, tries to get his mind off of it by presenting the successful maintaining of herbivores. All the while, his private benefactor has been breathing, carnivorous animals outside of his knowledge, such as Allosaurus, Mosasaurus, and later we find Gigantosaurus.

Issue #3[]
Tim finds out that a “Mr. L“ out bid him for the tip of his grandfather‘s cane. Later, Tim arrives at his under construction theme park and shown many of the dinosaurs that the scientists have been able to clone. Tim is informed that their local supply has been dwindling so they have been needing to feed the dinosaurs on local crops. Tim is furious as he’s been trying to figure out what’s been harming his sister’s crops all this time. Before he learns the news that Mr.L who turns out to be not only his private benefactor, but Peter Ludlow; who’s been planning to tarnish Hammond‘s Legacy by unleashing a swarm of dinosaurs upon the mainland.

Issue #4[]
Tim is explained to by Ludlow on how he survived the events of The Lost World and how they got to where they are now. Tim is astonished by this news, as well as the fact that Ludlow plans to frame him for negligence and causing all of this havoc. Tim Van Man, just sabotage, Ludlow, electric wheel chair, locking him in a room, and dealing with his bodyguard. Tim is later found and recovered by Lex and Eli and they all drive off to town to try and deal with the rampaging dinosaurs.

Issue #5[]
All the main characters drive in a jeep towards the town. When they get there, they work on rounding up all the loose dinosaurs. Tim is chased and almost eaten by an allosaurus before the dinosaur decidedly bites on the town sheriff instead, before moving off when a large Gigantosaurus appears but is drawn away by an emergency siren. Grant worries that the dinosaur may mistake it for a mating call, and prompts the others to go after it. Ellie and Bakker stay behind to round up the remaining dinosaurs, while everyone else goes to deal with the giant predator.
Once there, Lex, Tim, and the deputy make a run to stop the alarm. but, the giga chases after them, Tim is separated from the group and decides to use the vehicle to drive into the legs of the dinosaur, angering it. Lex manages to stop the alarm, but the giga has completely trashed the car with Tim inside, him nearly dead. It’s not until the velociraptors spontaneously appear and attack the large dinosaur, with its blood pouring into the water as a lure for the mosasaur to come and finish it off.
Tim is recovered from the remnants of the car. Finding it ironic that the velociraptor is of all dinosaurs are what saved him. Before Bakker hands Tim the tip of John Hammond‘s Amber piece which he returns to Hammond‘s gravesite.
Notes:
- Tim explains that he never anticipated to clone any carnivores.
- No one believes him about Ludlow still being alive, and since he is killed “off screen” is likely no one will believe him
- There’s no explanation as to whether Tim is able to open his park or even what happens to the dinosaurs by the end of the story
