Tyrannosaurus rex appeared in many Jurassic Park games including some of the most famous games such as Jurassic World: The Game, Jurassic World Evolution, Jurassic World: Alive, and many more.

1992[]

Jurassic Park (Tiger Handheld game)[]

A Tyrannosaurus rex is among the dinosaurs that must be avoided.

1993[]

Jurassic Park (NES game)[]

In the NES video game Jurassic Park, a Tyrannosaurus rex can be seen in the T. rex confrontation levels.

Jurassic Park (SNES game)[]

A Tyrannosaurus appears in the SNES Jurassic Park game, in which it can kill Grant instantly.

Jurassic-Park-SNES-review

Jurassic Park (SEGA Genesis Game)[]

The Tyrannosaurus rex is very present in the Jurassic Park game on the MEGA DRIVE, and is seen in the game intro on the SEGA logo and in levels 2 and 3 of the game.

Jurassic Park (Game Gear game)[]

Tyrannosaurus rex is a vehicle stage boss in the Brachiosaurus Area, but is also the final boss of the game. The player faces him in the Visitor Center. In the credits of the bad ending, it is listed as the director.

1997[]

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (arcade game)[]

The Tyrannosaurs family is featured in The Lost World : Jurassic Park arcade. The adult Tyrannosaurs serve as the main antagonists of the game, while the infant Tyrannosaur featured as background character.

The female first encountered as the game's first boss, in which she chased the player(s) through the jungle until she was defeated. She later returned at the very last stage of the game alongside her mate as the penultimate boss before the player(s) eventually came face-to-face with the male which served as the final boss of the game.

Chaos Island[]

Tyrannosaurus appears in Jurassic Park: Chaos Island, as one of the strongest dinosaurs and the hardest to kill. The baby T. rex is also featured in two of the missions. In the bonus mission taking place during the San Diego incident, the player plays as the Tyrannosaurus rex; who oddly in the game is female, instead of male. The rex in the game resembles the Bull T. rex from The Lost World Series 1 toyline.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (Game Gear game)[]

A Tyrannosaurus appeared as the game's final boss.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park SEGA Genesis[]

Juvenile Tyrannosaurus appears in the game as one of the strongest dinosaur enemies to be encountered. The larger adult, however, featured in a boss level.

1998[]

Jurassic Park: Trespasser[]

In Jurassic Park: Trespasser, Tyrannosaurus is an enemy, being the most powerful adversary in the game. It is invincible, unless being killed by the Toxic Rifle, or other hidden weapons. It is said that InGen made seven T. rex, meaning seven kings of the prehistoric world, each of which would be faced at one point during the course of the game. The colors of some of the Tyrannosaurus rex were based on The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It is first seen in the Industrial Jungle and last seen in The Ascent's first part.

The Tyrannosaurus in Ascent 1 is called the "Alpha Tyrannosaurus" according to ingame files. The Alpha Tyrannosaurus also makes an appearance in the Trespasser Demo as well. In addition, another Tyrannosaurus skin didn't make the cut. This Tyrannosaurus was a brighter green than the normal green T. rex. It is unknown why this green Tyrannosaurus was scrapped, but it might have had to do with the fact that the skin was too high in quality.

1999[]

Warpath: Jurassic Park[]

Tyrannosaurus is featured in the video game Warpath: Jurassic Park. Its attack patterns were the same as Acrocanthosaurus and Cryolophosaurus and has 3 colors: blue, green, and blue with orange stripes. Its arena was Freighter Deck..

2001[]

Jurassic Park III (arcade game)[]

A Tyrannosaurus featured in Jurassic Park III arcade game as one of the game's bosses. The Tyrannosaurus first appeared during the cutscene after the player(s) defeated the Spinosaurus. This individual fought the Spinosaurus, but the outcome was never revealed. In the later stage of the game, the player(s) would eventually face the Tyrannosaurus in a boss fight.

Jurassic Park III: Park Builder[]

Two Tyrannosaurs can be created in the GBA game Jurassic Park III: Park Builder. The smaller T. rex is probably a nod at the Baby T. rex from The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

2003[]

Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis[]

See: Tyrannosaurus rex/Operation Genesis

Tyrannosaurus is one of the dinosaurs in the game Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. It is a 5-star carnivore, and along with Spinosaurus, it is the most powerful carnivore in the game. It will devour guests, swallowing the guest whole after first shaking them around violently, making it mirror the death of Gennaro in the first film. The T. rex in the game is green, reflecting the appearance of the specimen seen in Jurassic Park III, though a number of user-created reskins depicting the animal as it appeared in other films can be found on the internet. The Tyrannosaurus' sociability among others of its kind is usually isolated, when another Rex encounters another they engage in combat against one another for territorial rights which eventually leads to death. It is seldom seen where both dinosaurs coexist with one another.

Tyrannosaurus is feared by most of the herbivores and small carnivores in the game. It does not scare the Brachiosaurus because it is too big to be attacked. The Spinosaurus can eliminate the predator with a Jurassic Park III-style snap to the neck, though the T. rex can also kill the Spinosaur using a similar method, crushing its neck with its powerful jaws and then throwing it to the ground.

2011[]

Jurassic Park: The Game[]

See: Rexy/JP:TG

The Tyrannosaurus seen throughout the original film appeared in Telltale's Jurassic Park: The Game as one of the main antagonists. In the InGen Field Guide included in the Jurassic Park: The Game Deluxe Edition set the size of the T. rex is given as being 40 ft from the snout to the tip of the tail, a 13 ft height at the hips, and weighing 7 tons.[1]

She is first seen when she faces off against Lady Margaret, the alpha Triceratops, after her encounter with Malcolm, Muldoon, and Ellie in the first film. The conflict almost kills Gerry Harding, his daughter Jess, who had come to visit the island earlier, and a very ill Nima Cruz, who was unconscious at the time. The two of them narrowly escape with their lives and wait out the night in the Triceratops Maintenance Building as the two titans clash.[2]

 and battle.

Rexy and Lady Margaret battle.

The T. rex then returns to Jurassic Park's Visitor Center after the killing the raptors at the end of the first film.[3] After a harrowing climax, Dr. Harding and Jess make it outside, managing to hit the Tyrannosaurus rex with a few tranquilizer darts, but this fails to stop the T. rex. They finally distract the T. rex when Gerry tells Dr. Sorkin to start up the tour vehicle waiting for them, which distracts Rexy.[4]

Rexy appears again in the clearing where Yoder, Oscar Morales and Nima crashed the helicopter chasing a Parasaurolophus. When the T. rex unintentionally throws scrap metal at the tree Yoder was in, he fall to the ground and the T. rex decides to pursue Nima and Yoder.[5] The two run to the Parasaurolophus Paddock where the T. rex kills a loitering Velociraptor, gaining access to another Parasaurolophus its pack had already killed.[6] However, after escaping, Yoder goes back to the paddock to retrieve the Barbosal can he had lost and manages to escape before Rexy kills him.[7]

She makes her final appearance by the dock in the final climax of the game, eating Billy Yoder. She also eats Nima Cruz if the player chooses the ending to rescue the embryos. The climax culminates to the T. rex chasing Dr. Harding across the cargo bay before he finally makes it onto the boat, with Jess and with or without Nima. If the player chooses the opposite ending to rescue Jess, Rexy steps on the Barbasol can, destroying the embryos.[8]

2012[]

Jurassic Park: Builder[]

See: Tyrannosaurus rex/Builder

Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the available dinosaurs in the simulation game Jurassic Park: Builder. Though it required dino-dollars purchase.

2015[]

Jurassic Park Arcade 2015[]

Tyrannosaurus is one of three dinosaurs served as bosses of the game. In the T. rex chapter, the players are tasked to capture the Tyrannosaurus. In the chapter, the players would briefly encounter a second blue colored Tyrannosaurus that draws focus from the main target, but this individual is presumably dead as it was knocked off a cliff side into the ocean by the main Tyrannosaurus, where it possibly drowned.

Jurassic World: The Game[]

See: Tyrannosaurus rex/JW: TG

Tyrannosaurus rex can be created in the game as a legendary non-hybrid carnivore dinosaur. A legendary Gen 2 variant was released in 2019.

LEGO Jurassic World[]

See: Tyrannosaurus rex/LEGO

The Tyrannosaurus is one of the playable dinosaurs in LEGO Jurassic World. As the game is based on all four films, the Tyrannosaurus rex appears at several points in the game. Due to the humorous nature of the game, the Tyrannosaurs as most of the Dinosaurs in the game are depicted with human-like intelligence, doing things like eating hamburgers wearing a bib and drinking coffee. Also though the Tyrannosaurs in the game still eat people, they usually end up spitting them out alive later on such as Rexy spiting out Donald Gennaro after defeating The Big One. Another example is the captured Tyrannosaur Buck spitting out Robert Burke and the other InGen Hunters. Also the Infant T. rex does not eat Peter Ludlow, instead Ludlow is taken back to Isla Sorna where he becomes part of the infant's mobile. When Rexy ate Donald Gennaro, she opened her mouth again, and he was using the toilet cleaner to supposedly "clean" Rexy's teeth.

Both the Infant T. rex and adult T. rex are playable, unlocked once the Tyrannosaurus' Amber Brick is obtained in the Control Room level, by breaking the LEGO glass on a Vending Machine found in the level with Lex Murphy's Scream ability. Once the Amber Brick is obtained the Infant and Adult Tyrannosaurus are unlocked for Free Play. However only the Infant can be selected from the character selection menu, while the Adult can only be summoned via Dino Spawners capable of spawning large dinosaurs, such as the one in the Tyrannosaur Paddock and other large open areas. Rexy can also be released into the Tyrannosaur Enclosure located in Jurassic World via shooting an electric switch using an Electric rifle. The playable Adult Tyrannosaur has two abilities: Roar and Dino Strength. Its Roar ability allows it to break Amber LEGO objects and destructible objects by roaring. Dino Strength allows it to break special Dino strength objects. The Infant T. rex however has no special abilities.

During certain points in the story, Tyrannosaurs can be controlled to fight enemy dinosaurs such as The Big One, Spinosaurus, and Indominus rex which act as boss battles. Also an adult Tyrannosaurus Skeleton can be unlocked as a playable character via collecting all 10 Minikits in Jurassic Park's "Visitor Center" chapter (Kitchen Escape, Control Room, and Main Hall). This will also unlock the Tyrannosaur hologram in Jurassic World's Innovation Center. The playable T. rex Skeleton uses the same animation, vocal effects, and abilities as the standard T. rex.

Like all the Dinosaurs in the game, the player can customize their own Tyrannosaurus. Through customization the Tyrannosaurus head option can be added to other dinosaurs to grant them the ability to roar like a Tyrannosaurus.

Profile[]
Tyrannosaurus rex is one of the largest therapods and eats large quantities of meat from any source. They are normally solitary, and hunt both large and small prey over a wide territory. They will happily coexist with a good number of other dinosaur species, although maybe not to their satisfaction! T. rex prefers large areas of open grassland for its territory.

Description[]
Tyrannosaurus rex is probably the most familiar dinosaur in history. Its name means "tyrant lizard king' and to many it represents the ultimate predator. This magnificent animal has long been at the heart of dinosaur attractions. This bipedal carnivore is known for its massive heart with what is theorized as one of the strongest bites to have ever existed on land.
Discovery[]
Tyrannosaurus rex fossils have been found across the once island continent of Laramidia - now western North America. Teeth were the first fossil find in 1874 near Golden in Colorado. The largest skeleton find so far was by Sue Henrickson at the Hell Creek Formation in South Dakota.
Paleoecology[]
Tyrannosaurus rex ranged across a number of different ecosystems. These vary between island and coastal subtropical regions, and semi-arid plains. To the north it is considered the dominant predator, but to the south Alamosaurus dominated.

Trivia[]

  • The T. rex in Jurassic World: Evolution is noticeably larger than its real life or film canon counterparts, and was even larger than Spinosaurus and Giganotosaurus.
    • This has since been somewhat rectified in the 1.4 update[9], which downsized the T. rex and increased the sizes of the Spinosaurus and Giganotosaurus.
  • The T. rex has a unique music cue when being released from the hatchery, using themes from the opening scene and T. rex chase scene from the first Jurassic Park film.
  • The Wetland pattern can only be unlocked once the player creates a 5 star park on Isla Pena on Jurassic difficulty.

Jurassic World: Alive[]

See: Tyrannosaurus rex/JW: A

Tyrannosaurus is an epic fierce dinosaur with a rare Gen 2 variant of the same class, both available since the game's official launch at Version 1.0.

As part of Update 3.1 on September 6th, 2023 in collaboration with Mattel, Ludia added the Electronic Real Feel Tyrannosaurus rex from the '93 Classic line to the game as a omega fierce group attack shatterer Tyrannosaurus.[10]

Individual Tyrannosauruses from the films and television shows were also added to the game: Rexy was added in Update 2.15 as a legendary fierce Tyrannosaurus, the Tyrannosaur Buck and Tyrannosaur Doe were added in Update 3.6 as a legendary wild card Tyrannosaurus and a legendary cunning + fierce Tyrannosaurus respectively, Junior was added in Update 3.13 as a unique wild card hybrid of his parents, and Big Eatie was added in Update 3.17 as an omega wild card Tyrannosaurus.

A pair of miniature Tyrannosaurus rex campaign/strike bosses (both in the fierce class): the unique Tiny T. rex and the epic Tiny T. rex Twin, were among the April Fools bosses featured in the 2024 April Fools event.

LEGO Brawls[]

Tyrannosaurus rex primarily appears in the Jurassic World stage of the game as a power-up exclusive to the stage along with Velociraptor and Pteranodon. When activated, the Tyrannosaurus rex will enter through the park gates and attack players opposing the minifigure who summoned it with its jaws, head, and tail, smashing buildings in the process. After it runs out of energy, it returns through the park gates until it it summoned again. In team battles, this power-up exclusively applies to members of Team Tyrannosaurus Rex (who serves as the representative), with the Indominus rex serving as its counterpart for Team Indominus Rex. At the end of the battle, the Tyrannosaurus appears with the other dinosaurs and the winners of the battle (in team battles Tyrannosaurus only appears exclusively with the members of Team Tyrannosaurus Rex if they win). Tyrannosaurus rex also appears floating in the background of the Mash-up stage.

Jurassic World: Aftermath[]

see: Tyrannosaurus rex/JW: Aftermath

Tyrannosaurus rex is the first live dinosaur seen in the game, seen breaking open the cockpit of the plane to eat the pilot, Carlos. Many pieces of Tyrannosaurus rex merchandise appear through posters, lunch boxes, action figures, and many more. In the part two DLC the Tyrannosaurus hunts the player while they try to travel through the garbage area. While doing this the animal will get distracted by noise and to not be eaten the player has to stay completely still. After the hunting sequence it is seen chasing a Triceratops and in the finale chapter of the game it saves the player from a Velociraptor by killing it right before it was about to pounce.
