Udesky was a booking agent hired by Paul Kirby to help him and his wife Amanda find their son Eric.

History

Jurassic Park III

Preparations for the mission

Udesky worked as a booking agent, and was hired by Paul Kirby as to help find his son Eric; after Paul and his wife Amanda had divorced, Amanda's boyfriend Ben Hildebrand and Eric went parasailing to Isla Sorna, an island inhabited by dinosaurs, located 207 miles west of Costa Rica. Udesky only agreed because another booking agent got sick. Once he took the job, Udesky recommended they recruit the help of someone who had been on the island before. When the Kirbys found out paleontologist Alan Grant had been on an island with dinosaurs, they selected him as their guide, not knowing the island he had been on was not the same island their son went to.

Udesky went to Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where Grant was giving a speech about Velociraptors; he ended up leaving before Grant talked about the two different islands that InGen had been experimenting on. While in an airplane junkyard somewhere in a desert, Udesky received a phone call from Paul Kirby checking on how things were going. Udesky verified that he found and hired two mercenaries, Cooper and M.B. Nash, both of whom came highly-recommended. As the mercenaries opened fire on an airplane wreckage, Udesky ended the call saying it'd be "a walk in the park".

Arrival on the Isla Sorna

Once the group was assembled, with the inclusion of Grant's assistant Billy Brennan. they flew out to Isla Sorna; Udesky and Nash served as the pilots on the plane, and landed on an airstrip. The three mercenaries went out to go searching in the jungle. Upon discovering a Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, they opened fire on it and retreated. Only Udesky and Nash escaped, leaving Cooper behind. Upon reaching the plane, Udesky screamed out to the crew that they had to leave immediately and ordered everyone to get onboard; when Grant asked about Cooper, Udesky responded that Cooper was a professional and could handle himself. Hearing the gunshots close by, the group boarded the plane. Udesky closed the door behind them, while Nash piloted the plane down the runway. A badly-injured Cooper ran onto the runway, frantically crying for them to stop, but the Spinosaurus devoured him seconds before the plane took off. As the plane took off, it rammed the Spinosaurus's sail and crashed into the forest. The Spinosaurus then ripped the plane in half, dragging Nash out of the plane and killing him. When the plane crashed to the forest floor, the occupants escaped, only to encounter a Tyrannosaurus rex. When Grant told nobody to move, they all instinctively ran off, with Grant tailing not too far behind. They encountered the Spinosaurus again, and Udesky reached for a pistol in his bag, but fumbled it. The group ran off when the T-rex arrived and engaged in a fight with the Spinosaurus, which the former ultimately lost.

After the Kirbys confessed the truth, Paul pointed to Udesky, who had told them that they needed Grant. Udesky defended himself, explaining that while he did suggest they hire Grant, he did not say they should kidnap him. Grant explained that he had never been on this island, confusing Udesky that there were two islands with dinosaurs living on them. Grant tells the Kirbys that they can either go search for their son alone, or stick with them. When asked what they should do, Udesky said that they should search for Eric, but with Dr. Grant's help. After scrounging the plane for parts, Udesky explained that he was not a mercenary like Paul Kirby thought he was, and expressed surprise that Kirby operated a hardware store. While walking through the jungle, Udesky overheard Paul and Amanda arguing, and said to Billy that he'd be going with him and Grant if they split up. After finding the parasail Eric and Ben used, Udesky found Amanda's video camera, which she had given to Eric; Udesky took the batteries out of his flashlight and placed them inside to recharge the camera. After looking over the footage, it became clear that Eric was still alive, so the group dragged the parasail down, only for Ben's skeleton, tangled in the straps, to attach itself to Amanda, sending her into a screaming frenzy. Udesky helped detatch Amanda from the skeleton, and she ran away, screaming hysterically.

Eventually, the group came across InGen's embryonics administration building, now abandoned. As the group walked towards it and wondering what it was, Udesky dryly quipped, "As far as I'm concerned, it's the Four Seasons". After accidentally attracting the attention of a male Velociraptor antirrhopus (Highland Velociraptor), the group split up; Udesky, Grant, and Paul hid in a kennel while the Velociraptor targeted Billy and Amanda. The duo pinned the raptor against the wall with the door, and the group escaped the compound as the raptor called for help and eventually escaped.

Death

The group ran through a field of stampeding Corythosaurus and Parasaurolophus; Udesky got separated from the group and ran into the forest, where he was cornered by two raptors; the raptors sliced his legs and back, knocking him to the ground. One of the raptors thrust its toe claw into Udesky's back, paralyzing him. His loud, agonized screams were heard by Paul Kirby and other raptors who saw an opportunity.

Udesky's death

Billy and the Kirbys escaped into a tree, and noticed the raptors were gone and saw Udesky lying face-down on the ground, supposedly dead. As Amanda saw Udesky attempt to crawl forward, she began to climb down the tree to help him, but lost her balance. The raptors immediately jumped up and tried to bite Amanda's head off, only for her to be rescued by Billy and Paul. Billy realizes that the raptors had actually set a trap, using Udesky as live bait. Upon hearing the call of other raptors nearby, one of the other raptors ran off. Realizing the trap failed, the remaining raptor gripped the back of Udesky's head in its jaws and swiftly snapped his neck to the right, killing him instantly.

Games

In LEGO Jurassic World, Udesky is a playable character throughout the early portions of Jurassic Park III's story mode. He has the ability to track things, and also carries a gun based on his Steyr AUG used in the film. Whereas in the film, he was the bait for the raptors' trap, in the game, Udesky himself is the trap's victim. A ringing phone attracts his attention, and when he answers it, he is captured in a cage.

Equipment

Udesky's weapons include a Steyr AUG, Heckler and Koch USP, and a hunting knife.

Behind the Scenes

Udesky was played by the late actor Michael Jeter.

His death is inspired by Howard King's and Eddie Carr's in the novel version of The Lost World. Also, Udesky tried to defend himself from the raptors with a stick, which John Arnold did in the original Jurassic Park novel while he was cornered in the maintenance shed by raptors before Muldoon blew one of the raptors up. The filmmakers probably wanted Udesky to have a bigger part, because Nash and Cooper both died at the start of the movie. Michael Jeter was first in mind to play Udesky. Originally, however, it was planned for Udesky to die in the initial Spinosaurus attack, leaving Nash to continue the journey, and be later killed by the raptors.

Udesky's deleted scene

In a deleted scene, Udesky attempts to use a stick to hit the Velociraptors to defend himself, with the Velociraptors overpowering and injuring him. In the final cut of the film, it just cuts to the Raptors killing Udesky. This sequence can be seen in production stills for the film. The scene was also possibly finished.

In an early script for JPIII written by Buchman, titled Jurassic Park: Extinction, there was a character named Tom Udesky, who was wealthy businessman Paul Roby's pilot. Roby, his son Miles, his business associate and girlfriend Susan Brentworth, bodyguard Cooper and Dr. Grant went on a sightseeing flight over Isla Sorna. Udesky ignored Sorna's no-fly zone and skimmed over the island but was forced to land after hitting an unidentified object. When they tried to take off, the plane clipped the Spinosaurus as it suddenly emerged from the jungle, sending the aircraft spiraling into the trees. The Spino rips off the nose of the plane. Udesky is then yanked out but the rest of the group escaped.[1]

Udesky's death is very similar to that of Oscar Morales (assumed) in Jurassic Park The Game: a Raptor sinks its claws into both of the characters backs, injuring them, and slowly killing them.
