Vampire bats are leaf-nosed bats in the subfamily Desmodontinae currently found living in the forests and grasslands of Central and South America. Its food source is the blood of other animals. Two extinct species of vampire bats once ranged in North America during the Pleistocene.
Like other bats, they live in colonies. They only hunt when it is fully dark and emit only low-energy sound pulses.
