The West African mangrove oyster (Crassostrea tulipa), or similar mangrove oyster, is a species of oyster that is found in tropical intertidal shorelines of West Africa. As its name suggests, it lives on the lower sections of the mangrove tree that are exposed during low tides and covered during high tides. The West African mangrove oyster evolved to survive exposed to the air when faced with low tides.

Several West African mangrove oysters are found near a boathouse in Senegal. When the Nublar Six and Zayna arrive there to trade one of their boats after a hippopotamus attack, Zayna goes to the river with Sammy to collect oysters for the journey ahead. After collecting, the girls put the baskets filled with oysters in the building for preparation when Sammy finds a dead body behind. She tries to distract Zayna from the situation before a Suchomimus appears and attacks the group, while the same hippo reappears to fight the dinosaur. The oysters are left in the boathouse afterwards.
