The yellow-banded poison dart frog (Dendrobates leucomelas), also known as the yellow-headed poison dart frog or bumblebee poison frog, is a species of poison dart frog that lives in the very humid rainforests of South America. It is diurnal and very territorial. It is also the only known poison dart frog to enter dormancy during dry spells.

Like most poison dart frogs, the yellow-banded poison dart frog is very colored to warn predators that it is toxic. As the name suggests, the frog is light-yellow with black stripes and/or spots that extend over the whole body. Some individuals are orange instead of yellow, though.

History[]

Jurassic Park[]

DNA of the yellow-banded poison dart frog was used to fill the gap of Dilophosaurus. But this led the dinosaur possessing abnormal traits, such as spitting venom.[1]
