The yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) is a species of tuna that inhabits pelagic waters of tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide. It is often marketed as ahi, from Hawaiian 'ahi, a name also used for the closely related bigeye tuna.
The yellowfin tuna is among the larger tuna species, reaching weights over 180 kg (400 lb), but is significantly smaller than other tuna species. It is recognizable for its second dorsal fin, anal fin, and finlets located between those fins and the tail, which are bright yellow, where its common name comes from. Like the other tunas, its body shape is adapted for speed, enabling them to capture fast-moving prey such as flying fish and squid. It also schools with other species of tuna like the skipjack tuna.
